In an effort to better spread and manage variance, I have added a new category called Movement Classes (aka Modalities). This category will capture the movement classes which are used in the workout. As defined by the Crossfit Journal article, “Theoretical Template for Crossfit’s Programming,” there are three movement classes which should be regularly rotated to ensure a well balanced program: Weightlifting Movements (W), Gymnastic Movements (G) and Metabolic Conditioning Movements (M).
Under weightlifting movements I include, Snatch, Presses (push, strict, bench), Clean, Jerk, Deadlift, etc.
Under Gymnastic Movements I include most body weight movements such as: Handstands and Handstand Pushups, Pushups, Pullups, Toes to Bar, L-Sit, Situps, Dips, etc.
Under Metabolic Conditioning Movements I include: Running, Rowing, Biking, Single/Double Unders, as well as, multi-mode movements such as Burpees, Thrusters, Man Makers, Renegade Rows, Turkish Getups, etc.
