Priority Variance: Time vs. Task Based

Since the following concept is not entirely intuitive, I thought it would make sense to document it for future reference.

Workouts that are task based typically require that a certain task be performed as fast as possible (the task is set and the time varies).  These workouts generally start with “For time…” and the priority is to perform the task as fast as possible.

Time based workouts typically set a time limit to perform as many rounds as possible (the time is set and the task varies).  These workouts are your classic AMRAPs.

EMOMs are normally a combination of the two.  Both time is fixed and generally the task is fixed as well.  The exception here is when part of the minute is filled with a fixed task and the rest is filled with max reps of another.

A Tabata is just a special form of a time based workout.
