Santorini, Greece

June, 2005

As you can see from the picture on the right, we did finally get to the island in our first-class cabin aboard the Express Aponon.

On the island we stayed in the town of Oia which is built on cliffs overlooking the volcano.  Our cave at the La Perla Hotel was wonderful.  With views of the ocean, the pool just outside the door, breakfast delivered to our room  and even a mini-cave for Sam (the 4 kittens just by the reception didn't hurt either).

Oia was a super little town to explore.  Its shops had all kinds of interesting things with only a couple of tourist junk shops.  The walk down to the water was nice ... the climb back was not.  We could have taken donkeys up but never got around to it.  Besides, they looked so sad.

Oia is also known for its sunsets since it is situated on the western most side of the island.  Tourists from all over the island swarm to the cliffs to watch the sun set in the evening.
